About Our Community

We are located in St.
Mary’s County on the southern
tip of Maryland’s western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
Bordered on three sides by the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers,
and the Chesapeake Bay, it is a boating, fishing, crabbing,
camping, and water sports mecca. Nearby Solomons Island
is a major bay marina with waterfront dining and harbor activities.
The county has a rich history dating back to the colonists
who made St. Mary’s City the first capital of Maryland;
currently St. Mary’s City is an active archeological
dig open to the public. As a semi-rural area, Southern
Maryland does not provide the hustle and bustle of large
metropolitan locales, but offers family-oriented communities
with thriving programs such as athletics, dance, and scouts
typically found in suburban communities. Washington
D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis offer extensive cosmopolitan
and cultural attractions within an hour or two for easy day
trips.
The area’s economic base includes
tourism, farming, and seafood, as well as engineering and
technical support to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft
Division (NAWCAD) and the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).
Virtually all technical projects associated with Navy and
Marine Corps aircraft and support systems are headquartered
at NAWCAD and NAVAIR, located at the Patuxent
River Naval Air Station. This
Naval Aircraft Center of Excellence provides numerous opportunities
for a steady and rewarding professional career.
