2010 Lighthouse Award

Lexington Park, MD - J.F. Taylor, Inc. was recently presented the 2010 Lighthouse Award by the St. Mary’s Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s Lighthouse Award recognizes a business that has shown growth and continued success with a commitment to the local community. Following is the text from the Chamber’s Award presentation:
“This year’s recipient, J.F. Taylor, Inc., was founded in 1983 by retired Naval Officer John F. Taylor. JFTI, as the company is also known, has built a reputation for excellence and is a highly regarded engineering/professional services company supporting United Sates military aviation programs. Core programs are in the areas of hardware and software systems, instrumentation of real-time data systems.
The company is also a successful developer and integrator of high-fidelity full-flight simulators and training devices. All of the company’s projects, whether new developments, upgrades, or modifications, are known for the quality of workmanship and operational reliability. With experience in fixed wing and rotary wing flight trainers, the company has demonstrated its capabilities on numerous U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard flight training programs.
Since 1983 the company has seen steady growth based on excellent performance and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of their military clients. Headquartered in Lexington Park, Maryland, the company’s facility includes 65, 000 square feet of office, conference, laboratory and high-bay manufacturing space in four buildings. They also have offices in Orlando with staff and customer support in Oceana and Suffolk, Virginia as well as Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1990 the company had grown to 50 employees; by 2000 there were 150; and today the company has 300. Revenues for the company have shown the same growth, from $5 million in 1990 to $20 million in 2000 and over $75 million in 2009. In 2004, JFTI’s quality management system was certified to ISO 9001:2000 with design and recertified in 2007. In 2008 the certification was upgraded to ISO 9001:2008 with design.
Although the company enjoys maintaining a relatively low public profile, their commitment to the community is far from low key. With the vast majority of their employees working and living in Southern Maryland, they have been involved in numerous initiatives and direct donations. The company has provided computer lab upgrades for a number of schools, participates in tutoring programs with a local elementary school, and supports the Toys for Tots Program and Children’s Hospital’s Dr. Bear’s Toy Closet. The company’s biggest contribution is the time volunteered by so many of the employees in everything from sports leagues and school activities to local clubs and organizations throughout the area. The company proudly supports the efforts of their employees with donations to these activities.
J.F. Taylor, Inc. has received numerous awards over the years including MT2 Top 100 Training & Simulation Company; USCG Captain Niels P. Thomsen Innovation Award; NAWC AD Area Commander’s Award; Recognition of Excellence by the Small Business Administration; and the James S. Cogswell Award.
The St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce is proud to add to this list of accomplishments by presenting the 2010 Lighthouse Award to J.F. Taylor, Incorporated.”
