J.F. Taylor, Inc. Selected to Upgrade CH-53E WST
August 2006
J.F. Taylor, Inc. has won a contract to upgrade the visual system in the CH-53E Weapons System Trainer (WST) at the Marine Corps Air Station in New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina.
The contract includes the option to modify another WST at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, California. If all options are exercised, the contract is worth approximately $9 million.
The contract was competitively awarded under NAVAIR’s Training Systems Contract (TSC II), for which J.F. Taylor, Inc. is a prime contractor. Vice President and TSC II Program Manager Mark Taylor states, “We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with the Navy on upgrading the CH-53E trainers. The CH-53E is an important workhorse for the USMC, so it is critical that they have state-of-the-art training capabilities.”
The CH-53 trainers have undergone many upgrades since they were originally built in the 1980s. In addition to upgrading the trainer’s visual capabilities, the modifications that J.F. Taylor will perform will increase their reliability and reduce the total life cycle support costs and obsolescence issues. Subcontractors Veraxx, Aechelon Technology, and SEOS Ltd will be working with JFTI to complete these upgrades.
