U.S. Coast Guard Selects J.F. Taylor, Inc. to Deliver an MH-60T Flight Trainer

July 2006

The U.S. Coast Guard has contracted with J.F. Taylor, Inc. to build, test, and deliver an MH-60T Cockpit Procedures Trainer (CPT). The CPT will be installed at the USCG Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AL, and delivery is scheduled for June 2007.

“This is a great project for J.F. Taylor,” says Mark Taylor, Program Manager, “since we have extensive recent H-60 experience manufacturing four MH-60S Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) cockpits, a VH-60N Engineering Development Tool (EDT), and the VH-60N Aircraft Procedure Trainer (APT)—projects that we delivered to the USN and USMC.”

In addition to hardware development, J.F. Taylor will perform software upgrades necessary to properly interface the existing HH-60J OFT software to the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) to produce a high fidelity CPT for the Coast Guard.

The MH-60T is part of a continued effort to economically maintain U.S. Coast Guard legacy helicopter capa bility for the foreseeable future, and represents a new cockpit suite—known as a “glass cockpit”—for which the U.S. Coast Guard currently has no part or full task training device. Approximately 80% of the pilot-to-machine interface will change with the introduction of the CAAS cockpit.

The MH-60T CPT will provide a platform for curriculum development, standardization, transition, and familiarization t raining on the mission avionics suite while preparing flight crews to operate efficiently and effectively in today’s operationally demanding environment. Pilot and copilot training on the CPT will utilize active electric control loading for the primary flight controls, lower center console, main instrument panel, and overhead console.
